Les Fumades
The well-attended Casino Fumades-les-Bains, popular with the French, invites you to play. It is open daily from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. and can be reached by car in about 10 minutes.
Les Thermes des Fumades
Day guests are also welcome in the new thermal baths with large health/wellness area (opening 2024).
Alès
The nearest town (ville fleurie) offers many sights besides artistic water fountains, e.g. the St. Jean-Baptiste Cathedral, the former coal mines (accessible since 1985), Musée de Colombier and much more. In addition to good shopping opportunities, the city also has a lot to offer on the culinary side.
Lussan
One of the most beautiful rock villages in the Gard region with a wide panoramic view. Nearby is the birthplace of La Pintade de Lussan, the hand-shaped ceramic guinea fowl. The chickens are made at the Atelier Caillard in a variety of colour combinations and shapes. The boutique with a large selection is open daily.
Grotte de la Cocalière
This is one of France’s 3 greatest caves and it’s absolutely worth a visit. The cave can be reached by car in about 30 minutes.
St. Quentin la Poterie
Not far from Uzès is this small pottery village with over 30 potteries and ceramic workshops. The Musée de la Poterie houses an impressive collection of Mediterranean pottery.
Beaucaire
This medieval town is the starting point of the Rhône-Sète Canal with a small harbour. A wonderful cycle path to the Pont du Gard has been built on the former railway line.
Anduze
The pretty little town is located between two huge rocks and is therefore also called the gateway to the Cévennes. A visit to the pottery workshops with the famous Anduze vases, an excursion to the Bambouseraie, about three kilometres away, or a ride on the steam train to St. Jean du Gard are highly recommended.
Nîmes
This little jewel of historic urban architecture with one of the best-preserved amphitheatres from Roman times can be reached by car in 50 minutes. The Maison Carrée is also worth seeing. The pedestrian area with cafés, bars and bistros begins on Boulevard Victor Hugo.
Avignon
The old town has numerous historical sights, first and foremost the imposing Palais des Papes. The monumental residence of the popes from the 14th century is the largest Gothic palace in the world and, together with the old town, part of the UNESCO World Heritage.
Pont du Gard
The Roman aqueduct is a masterpiece of ancient architecture, built in the 1st century AD to transport water over 50 km to Nîmes. It spans the Gardon River over three floors with arcades. The ancient aqueduct is the highest Roman bridge in the world and the most visited sight in southern France. Its construction is very impressively documented in the adjoining museum.
Paddle tour on the Gardon to the Pont du Gard
A stroll across the world-famous Pont du Gard is standard. It is much more exciting to rent a canoe or kayak and glide under the ancient aqueduct on the Gardon. The starting point for canoeists is usually Collias, but Pont St. Nicholas is much less frequented.
Aigues-Mortes
The city wall is a Gothic bastion and surrounds with a lengh of 1.6 kilometres the old town, which is vibrant in the summer months. A special experience is the guided tour on the little train through the famous Salines.
Montpellier
Here, the Mediterranean way of life is combined with a wide range of cultural activities, magnificent historical buildings and modern architecture. Montpellier is one of the most beautiful cities in France and an important student city. It is just 10 km to the Mediterranean coast.
Arles
The LUMA cultural centre with its 56-metre-high aluminium box tower by star architect Frank Gehry opened in 2021. The former 11 hectare industrial area of the SNCF has been renaturalised and turned into a public park. A visit to the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh is a must for art lovers.
Saint-Remy de Provence
The charming little town enchants with its boulevards, pretty lanes with plane trees, its various boutiques, cafés and restaurants and the flair of Provence.
Les Baux-de-Provence
Baux is perched high on a rocky ledge and holds an incredibly rich architectural heritage. The castle complex Château des Baux offers an exceptional panoramic view over the Provence from Aix to Arles.
Carrières de Lumières
Multimedia art projections with well-known paintings and musical accompaniment take place in a former quarry.
L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
This picturesque town with its many canals and waterwheels is known as the Venice of the Comtat. There are very nice antique shops here and a fantastic flea market at Easter.
Aix-en-Provence
It is a pleasure to stroll through the old town. At every turn you come across impressive buildings, fountains, lanes and monuments. Aix-en-Provence is also known for its characteristic southern French markets.
Golfcourses around Uzès
There are three golf courses in the area around Uzès of which Golf de Nîmes Vacquerolles is the most beautiful 18-hole course. Only a few 100 metres south of Uzès is a 9 hole golf course with driving range, restaurant, bar. It is open all year round. Beginners are welcome.
